Therapy

Following thorough assessment, a programme of treatment is devised where appropriate and which is tailored to your child’s individual needs. The most effective way of working with your child will be discussed. This may involve you and your child attending weekly for several weeks. The adult attending may be a parent or a carer.

Children will be discharged after a period of therapy, if treatment is complete, or if the child’s potential has been achieved. It may be appropriate to arrange review appointments to monitor progress.

Individual sessions

Parents and children attend the sessions together. Individual work is carried out with your child, and programmes of treatment are discussed and demonstrated in order that targets can be reinforced at home.

A range of therapy and toy equipment is available to make sessions fun and enjoyable. Advice regarding general strategies for promoting your child’s communication development will also be given.

Liaison with other professionals

Pre-school/school visits can be arranged with your permission to enable further assessment, for example to assess your child's communication skills with their peers, or to provide advice and support. Liaison with other professionals involved with your child can also be carried out, again with parental permission. This may include an NHS Speech and Language Therapist.
